Connect Routara MCP to Cursor

Routara MCP adds tools to Cursor. It does not replace Cursor’s own chat model or subscription. Routara tool calls use your Routara key and the account’s eligible credit or wallet funds. Start with a text call before trying image or video generation.

01

Get a key and check your balance

Sign in to Routara, save the full key when it is created, and confirm the account can run a small text request. A masked key displayed later cannot be copied back into Cursor.

02

Add the MCP server

In Cursor MCP settings, add a stdio server using npx. Set ROUTARA_API_KEY through the client’s environment or secret setting. If your client stores the configuration in a file, keep that file private and out of Git.

  "mcpServers": {
    "routara": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "routara-mcp"],
      "env": { "ROUTARA_API_KEY": "your-key" }
    }
  }
}
03

Verify the connection

Restart or refresh Cursor’s MCP connection. Confirm that Routara tools appear, then ask the agent to call routara_chat with a small prompt. If tools do not appear, inspect the MCP process log and package version. If the tool appears but fails, check the Routara key and account balance.

Before you ship

  • MCP tool availability and Cursor chat-model billing are separate.
  • Do not paste your key into chat or commit client configuration.
  • Use a low-cost text call as the first paid or trial action.
